Hi there! I have some of your spirulina but it supposedly expires on the 10th of this month, is it possible to use after this date or does that mean it is BAD?
Thanks!

Hello Casey, Spirulina, by nature, contains an intracellular powerful liquid phytonutrient called phycocyanin. This molecule is the magic of Spirulina. Fresh Spirulina tiny living little “water balloons” of liquid gold nutrients. When the cells are whole, we see the tree phytonutrient chlorophyll; however, when the cells begin breaking open 10-12 days on average after harvest, they release this blue liquid into the jar. The green and blue and present orange beta-carotene reflect purple colors.
However, it isn’t “Bad” or unsafe because these nutrients are living and now exposed to oxygen; fermentation begins converting the liquid into a strong probiotic. If you are and have been living a 100% plant-based lifestyle, this probiotic effect will not cause issues. However, those consuming processed foods, dead animal parts, or secretions may experience some disruption in the microbiome.
